He spent time as an engineer in the private sector, and has also taught, lectured, or published findings on: architectural engineering, urban transportation planning, highway safety, railroad engineering, public works engineering, traffic assistance, professional ethics, round-abouts, traffic safety, signs, signing & liability, traffic control, work zone signing, and wind-induced truck crashes. He has served on over 70 University committees and 8 honorary societies, as well as professional organizations. He is a registered engineer in Kansas and Indiana, and a registered land surveyor in Kansas.
