EXPERIENCE:

Expert is a registered mechanical engineer with over 19 years of experience and has performed over 2800 forensic examinations. Applying his education and experience, he has analyzed and solved complex problems in the real world. As a mechanical engineer his experience includes engineering analysis of product failures, water losses, fires, explosions, mechanical failures, industrial accidents, code research and review for product liability issues, as well as, for cause determination.
He has extensive experience in the performance of forensic engineering analysis of fires and failures of household gas and electric appliances, HVAC systems, boilers/water heaters, natural gas/propane systems, commercial vehicles (diesel, electric, LNG, CNG), process equipment, automobiles, sports equipment, agricultural equipment, recreational vehicles, off-road vehicles, and marine equipment.
His experience includes analytical (computer) modeling of fire-scenes and product failures, scene documentation, field measurements, forensic photography, in-situ leak tests of plumbing systems, natural gas systems and propane (LP) systems, and evidence collection. He has used other analytical techniques in combination with physical tests for mechanical accidents/evaluations, including metallurgical and materials analysis, finite element analysis and/or fire dynamics analysis. He has developed numerous fire models to analyze smoke alarm/detector activation, time to incapacitation by carbon monoxide, heat, and smoke, fire/smoke spread, conflicting origins, and fire pattern development.
He has tested various types of appliances in relation to fuel gas leaks or flow measurements, carbon monoxide leaks, explosions, mechanical/electrical failure, and fire.
Mr. Britton has experience in the cause determination and failure analysis of water losses of all scales including high rise buildings, schools/universities, hospitals, restaurants, residential homes, warehouses, commercial/industrial buildings, and carports/parking garages. He is experienced with evidence identification, documentation, collection, and preservation pursuant to the relevant ASTM, NFPA, and other standards.
He has conducted various laboratory experiments while at Sidhi. Experiments include: live burn tests, gas and fluid pressure flow and leak tests, electrical continuity, materials characterization and fracture analysis of various materials including metals/alloys, polymers, ceramics, and composites, as well as microscopic photography of various materials. He has also designed and fabricated custom experiments for various projects while at Sidhi.
