MAJOR TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Medical Academy in Gdansk, Poland (1980-1982); University of California, San Diego School of Medicine (1989-1995 and 2000 to present); and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (1996 – 2000): responsible for educating medical students, and general and plastic surgery residents in the fields of surgery, plastic surgery and anatomy (laboratories, classroom seminars and lectures, operating room, clinics, “bedside” teaching, conferences/rounds, etc.). I have also contributed to the education of residents in Head and Neck Oncology as well as Podiatry Residency Programs through my participation in the treatment planning conferences, postgraduate courses and clinical activity. From 2000 through 2009 participated in work of the Committee developing new Curriculum for the UCSD School of Medicine.

I have served as an advisor and mentor to numerous third- and fourth-year medical students, both domestic and international and directed UCSD Course 445 (Surgical Specialties) since 2001.

As example of my cooperative educational activity linking the School of Medicine with other institutions I would like to mention awarded project from 2007: I participated in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Team Project-Based Course (ECE 191) Program, sponsored by the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2, Bio-Engineering Major undergraduate students) mentoring in the field of the development of the “field camera” for telemedicine.

From 2000 through 2017 I directed (or served as a co-mentor) multiple UCSD student ISPs (Independent Student Research Projects).

I was involved in sponsoring, mentoring and designing a variety of educational individual programs at UCSD for surgeons both nationally and internationally.

PRINCIPAL CLINICAL AND HOSPITAL SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical practice in the field of plastic surgery at UCSD Medical Center (Hillcrest and Jacobs Medical Centers), affiliated hospitals (VA La Jolla, Children’s Hospital until 2017) and Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. I was the Medical Director of UCSD Plastic Surgery Clinics both in Hillcrest and Chancellor Park Location in 2016-2017.

In addition to general plastic and aesthetic surgery practice, I serve as the Consultant for the Regional Imperial and San Diego County UCSD Burn Center until 2017.

I have served as Chief of Plastic Surgery Clinical Services at UCSD Medical Centers since 1994 through 1996.

I have served as the Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Service at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey from 1996 through 2000 and became the Head of the Division of Plastic Surgery UCSD in 2000. From 2000 through 2009 I served as the UCSD Plastic Surgery Residency Program Director.
