Summary
Expert is a specialist in business fraud discovery, resolution and prevention. He holds the accreditation of Diplomate in accordance with the American Board of Forensic Accounting. His work focuses on closely held companies and their stakeholders.
His litigation support Declarations and Reports have brought success to clients’ positions in the Superior Courts of both Los Angeles County and Marin County. Often these findings induce the parties to arrive at a pretrial agreement.
His assignments vary from employee/executive/CFO fraud, investment scams, due diligence examinations, operational scans to determine a company’s stability, invisible fraud (no paper trial) and bribery. Often these acts are committed by the company owner, family member, trusted executive, false insurance claims, family law disputes among other forms of business deception and manipulation.
His career began with accounting firms where his assignments included confidential investigations into fraudulent client activities. It continued with being a CFO in companies in bankruptcy or operational breakdowns. Early on he learned that business fraud is not accounting based but behavior and trust based. He earned his securities sales license though never practiced. He has been conducting business fraud examinations and crisis management throughout his career and has never revealed the name of a client.
In 1981, using his hands-on knowledge, he began creating and teaching business operations courses and seminars at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In 1991 he created the course, Detection and Prevention of Fraud in Business and Finance that he taught until 2004. This course focused on schemes, both detectable and undetected, used to defraud companies and investors. His original two courses focused on business growth with financial control to avoid operations collapse.
From 2004 – 2009 he taught over fifty Continuing Professional Education seminars for accountants and attorneys. One seminar dealt with deceptive client practices; the other dealt with discovery and resolution of untraceable (no paper trail) business fraud.
