Added Qualifications in Forensic Psychiatry
After completing medical school, psychiatric residency and one year as an auditor at University of California School of Law (Berkeley), Expert Witness No. 2102 has focused at least one half of his practice on the specialty of Forensic Psychiatry. Thirty years and approximately 5,000 cases later he has consulted for attorneys, employers and judges about issues involving disability, risk and threat of violence (at the workplace or in society), malpractice, testamentary capacity, emotional distress, the effects of undue influence, need for treatment, addiction, competency, insanity and diminished capacity. He has qualified in court as a psychiatric expert in the areas of Forensic Psychiatry concerned with personal injury, toxic torts, product liability, breach of contract, traumatic brain injury, sexual assault (adults and children), intentional infliction of emotional distress, testamentary capacity, undue influence, ADA, harassment and discrimination, wrongful termination, workers' compensation, temporary and permanent disability, and psychiatric aspects of criminal law. He has taught attorneys about the direct and cross-examination of expert witnesses and assisted them with this on a case-by- case basis. His best estimate is that he has testified more than 150 times and been deposed more than 500 times. Because of his extensive diagnostic experience, he is considered expert in this aspect of psychiatry.
Expert Witness No. 2102 also has an active clinical practice where he treats patients as well as having been a member of the clinical faculty at UCSF Medical School, where he was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. He taught about psychiatric aspects of chronic pain and disability, psychosomatic medicine, stress causing physical illness, malingering, and the role of the psychiatrist in the litigation process, medical ethics, and supervised residents about on-going therapy cases they were treating.
